Teach our children skills, instead of an ideological school pledge

TAU SA took with disbelief notice of the so-called National School Pledge.  Mr Paul van der Walt, President of TAU SA, said it is unthinkable that little children at school have to take this sort of oath, which is political and ideological loaded, to such an extent that adults would have difficulty in understanding it. “The time has come for the ANC to move past their struggle, and to take up its responsibilities as a government.  The government will then surely do better in ensuring acceptable matric results at the end of each year, instead of giving overworked teachers the duty to teach learners non-educational nonsense like this ideological driven pledge.  Circumstances in the country have shown the shortage of skills.  This senseless pledge will not make a contribution to the improvement of the level of skills,” Mr Van der Walt said.
