Die oudste brandweerstasie in Kaapstad spog met ʼn splinternuwe voorskoms na die opgraderingsproses wat in 2024 van stapel gestuur is.
Die opgraderingprojek van Seepunt Brandweerstasie, wat reeds in 1932 opgerig is, is reeds 95 persent voltooi en is oor twee finansiële jare (2024 – 2025) gedoen teen ʼn koste van net meer as R7,8 miljoen.
Die merkbare opgraderings sluit in verfwerk asook die dak wat vervang is. Verder het dit bestaan uit teëlwerk, opdatering van die elektriese infrastruktuur, nuwe reënwatergeute en die herstel van krake aan die fasade van die gebou.
Die bewaring van die erfenisstatus en argitektoniese kenmerke het voorkeur geniet aangesien hierdie brandweerstasie een van die belangrikste landmerke in Seepunt is.
“Die Brand en Reddingsdiens van hierdie stasie het ʼn lang en trotse geskiedenis in Kaapstad, juis daarom dra die Stad die verantwoordelikheid om die brandweerstasies as bakens van hoop vir die gemeenskappe in tyd van nood in stand te hou. Dit is belangrik vir gemeenskappe om te besef dat hierdie structure goed in stand gehou word en voortgaan om diens aan diegene in nood, ook vir toekomstige generasies te bied,” aldus Alderman Smith, Burgemeesterkomiteelid vir Veiligheid en Sekuriteit.

Sea Point Fire Station gets new look
Earlier this week, Alderman JP Smith and Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis visited the Sea Point Fire Station to survey the recent upgrades to the facility.
The Station is one of the oldest in Cape Town and dates back to1932.
The total cost of the renovation project amounts to R7 861 597.09 over two financial years (2024 – 2025) and is 95 percent complete.
Some of the renovations to the main building included painting, roof replacement, tiling, updating electrical infrastructure, new gutters and repairs to cracks along the building facade.
During the planning and implementation stage, the conservation of the heritage status and architectural features were top of mind as the fire station is an important landmark in Sea Point.
‘Our Fire and Rescue Service has a long and proud history in Cape Town and we have the responsibility to maintain and preserve our Fire Station. Fire Stations are beacons of hope for our communities in times of emergencies and it is important for communities to know that they are well maintained and continue to provide services for those in need for generations to come,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security,’ Alderman Smith.
