Amandelbult Mine held 10km Road Race

AMANDELBULT – Amandelbult Mine was this years host to the Mining News 10km Road Race on 17 April. A total of 218 athletes from various mines in South Africa competed in the race. Mr Francious Uys (Amandelbult Manager) set of the gun that indicated the start of the race at 10:00.
Amongst the mines which participated is Kloof, Union Section, Rustenburg Section, West Driefontein, Impala, Northam Platinum, Western Deep Levels, all Harmony mines, Bleskop and Amandelbult. The winner of this race was Tebatso Motsotswana from Kloof who finished the race in 30 minutes and 34 seconds. Last years’ record was 23 minutes and 15 seconds, and was also won by Motsotswana. Botiekie Jantjies from Rustenburg Section was the runner-up and the third position went to Floyd Makete from Western Deep Levels. Tebatso Motsotswana was very happy and excited with his achievement.
“I started preparing myself for this race since January, and I am very happy that I could defend my title. My next marathon will be in Sweden on the 4th of June, and this became the positive reason for my preparation. Only the sky can stop me now,” said Motsotswana.
The purpose of the race is to keep a peaceful sporting competition within the various mines and also to improve the health status of mine workers. This race was only open for mine employees of all ages, sex and colour. Five women participated in this race, which was won by Dimakatso Phumo. Amandelbult was represented by Mr Francious Uys (Amandelbult Manager), Denzel Miller (Outgoing Human Resources Manager) and Eric Nkosi (Incoming Human Resources Manager).
“I like everything about this event and the efforts that was put in by people who participated. We have been active in the past and won this race in 2000 under the management of Mr Chris Griffit (former Amandelbult Manager). The important factor is to keep people healthy in the process. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who took part in this event,” said Mr Uys.
The top ten runners received gold medals, while every runner who completed the race received a silver medal and a voucher of R160 from Pick ‘n Pay.
