Statement by Thabazimbi Municipality

Statement by Thabazimbi Municipality on allegations of nepotism, corruption and incompetence
On the 30th October 2009, Die Kwêvoël published controversial misleading and in accurate claims made by the chairperson of Mmebane Chamber of Commerce accusing the municipality on the above issues.
The Municipality has noted with concern these recent publication on the allegations made in that meeting of Chairpersons’ Forum of 15 October 2009. We want to put it on record that all allegations made are just smear campaign. The fact that Thabazimbi is deteriorating is only issue of that chairperson and his followers.
All posts in this municipality are advertised in Die Kwêvoël and there is no form of corruption and nepotism in this regards, all procedures are followed in all posts. All tenders are advertised and appointments of service providers are done based on their experiences, adhering to tender specifications and all necessary steps require in tendering processes.
Mmebane chairperson must also come out and proof all his misleading information to the public.
The issue of councillors seen the IDP/Budget three minutes before the approval in June is just but one of the smear campaign by this chairperson, there are lot processes done before approval of IDP/Budget and that the approval on the 2nd of June 2009 was done after several stakeholders and public participations engagements were done, and councillors were part of all those processes. I therefore like to advice the Mmebane chairperson to attend meetings and not take things for granted. Mr Jan Viljoen of the chairperson’s forum also attended our Public Participation meetings
We condemn in the strongest possible terms these irresponsible allegations and utterances and wish to assure the citizens that there is no truth in these widely published claims.
The municipality therefore demands a public apology and retraction into these unfounded allegations. We are requesting the chairperson’s forum not use Mmebane Chamber of Commerce for their narrow political interest.
We urge everyone who believes that there is any form of corruption in the Municipality must with immediate effect report the matter to the police and anyone can declare a dispute or report to any chapter 9 institution.
