One car thief caught, two on the loose
THABAZIMBI – After following a stolen vehicle from Thabazimbi to Rustenburg and Lichtenburg, one of three car thieves was eventually caught in Rooiberg this week.
At 22:00 on Monday 23 March the Thabazimbi police was alerted to the theft of a vehicle at the Thabazimbi Abattoir. A police team lead by capt Bodibe followed information which lead them first to Rustenburg and then to Lichtenburg.
At some stage, while they were patrolling a section of Rustenburg CBD around midnight, information was received that the stolen vehicle was spotted in Rooiberg.
In the early hours of Tuesday Capt Bodibe and D/Insp Majabibodu managed to corner the suspect and end the cat-and-mouse hunt, which lead the police far and wide.
A suspect was arrested and detained in the SAPS cells. The police are on the look-out for two other suspects in connection with the case.
The stolen vehicle, which was badly damaged when the car thief ran it into a tree in Rooiberg, was recovered and towed back to Thabazimbi.
