Last weekend for registration
THABAZIMBI – This weekend is the last voter registration weekend before the 2009 elections.
Prospective voters, however, will be able to register at the local electoral offices after the registration weekend. Once the election date is announced the voters’ role is issued and late registrations will not appear on it.
Voters who work during the week and do not have the chance to register must make use of this opportunity when 36 voting stations in the Thabazimbi Municipal District will be open on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February from 08:00 until 17:00. The local electoral office in Thabazimbi, next to the municipal offices, will also be open during these hours.
Those who must register are first time voters or registered voters who have moved house. Prospective voters must have their Identity Documents (ID’s) or Temporary (ID’s) with them and must be older than 16 years. Only individuals 18 years and older are eligible to vote.
The location of the registration/voting stations have remained more or less unchanged since previous elections, but can be confirmed by phoning the Thabazimbi Electoral Office at 014 772 3182.
Thabazimbi town residents can register at the Trollope Hall at the Agricultural Showgrounds. One voting station has moved from Vaalpenskraal Primary School to Canterbury Primary School.
The Thabazimbi Electoral Office is also open during week days between 07:30 and 16:30.
Voters can confirm where they are registered by sms’ing their ID numbers to 32810 or by phoning the toll free number 0800 11 8000 or by visiting www.elections.org.za on the internet.
