Increased house breaking and theft

THABAZIMBI – The SAPS has claimed that residents living on the far Eastern side of Thabazimbi, in the Kwaggasvlakte and Spitskop area, have experienced an increase in house breaking and theft. It has come under the attention of the Thabazimbi Police Station that some of these residents are employing and harbouring undocumented foreigners (illegal immigrants). The SAPS say according to the Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2002 it is illegal to employ or harbour undocumented foreigners. Information received by the Police links these house breaking incidents directly with undocumented foreigners as the perpetrators. If the SAPS finds undocumented foreigners employed or harboured, the landlord or employer can be fined up to R1000 per undocumented foreigner. If the fine is not paid, the employer or landlord will be summonsed to appear before court on which an even larger fine or possible sentence can be handed down as stated in the Immigration Act, Act 13 of 2002, section 49 (2) and (3). The SAPS urges the community not to make themselves guilty by employing or harbouring undocumented foreigners.
