THABAZIMBI – Thabazimbi Municipality FC successfully defended the Thaba Spar Cup after defeating Thaba Spar FC by 2-0 in the final match of the Thaba Super Spar Cup 2012 that was played at Thaba Park on Saturday on 13 October 2012 at 21:00.
A head-to-head encounter started with TBZ Municipality FC pushing hard forward seeking for an early goal and finally got it on the 11th minute of the game. Thaba Spar started to push as well trying to find the back of the net until second half, but to no avail. The game was sealed when the defending champions scored its second and last goal very late in the game and it was bye bye to Thaba Spar.
TBZ Municipality FC had to beat Kumba FC to reach the final in the semi final match that was played on the same date and venue at 15:00. Kumba FC lost by 2-0 to the defending Champions. In the second semi final, it was a tight game between Thaba Spar FC and Amandelbult Concentrator FC that ended up in the penalty shootouts after a 0-0 draw. Thaba Spar managed to win by 4-3 on penalties.
The losers final was also played in the evening at 19:00 between Kumba FC and Amadelbult Concentrator FC, fighting for the third position and Kumba FC won by 3-1.
The Champions took away the trophy, Gold medals and prize money amounting to R2000. The runners up took home the silver medals and R1 500, while Kumba FC on the third spot got itself bronze medals and R1000 and Concentrator on the fourth position received R500.
The prizes were awarded after the final match by Cllr SA Khumalo and Mr Isaac Chake representing the Sponsor Thaba Super Spar. The chairperson of Thaba Spar League Mr Ofentse Ngwako congratulated the ruling Champions, TBZ Municipality FC for defending the Thaba Spar Cup and thanks Thaba Super Spar for Sponsoring such a successful cup games.
Thabazimbi Municipality FC was crowned champions of SAIMSA 2012 held in Gaborone, Botswana and they are champions of SAIMSA Limpopo that were held in May 2012 in Seshego, Polokwane.
