The 2010 International Nelson Mandela Day

THABAZIMBI – On 18 July the people of South Africa and the world will once again pay tribute to one of the word’s greatest icons and international statesman, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, by participating in a wide range of noble acts in celebration of the 2010 International Nelson Mandela Day. The Nelson Mandela Day, which takes place on the birthday of first democratic president of South Africa, encourages everyone to make a difference by dedicating time doing something positive wherever they live in emulation of the courageous and selfless years of political activism led by Madiba.

The Nelson Mandela Day was celebrated for the first time in 2009 following its launch by the Nelson Mandela Foundation and the 46664 Campaign.

The same year, the United Nations declared 18 July “Nelson Mandela International Day”, in recognition of Madiba’s contribution to global peace and freedom.

In Thabazimbi, Regorogile Ext 9 also known as Appiesdoring will be the place to be during this Mandela Day on the 17th July 2010, Saturday. The Mayor, Councilors of Thabazimbi Municipality including all community leaders and all sector departments within municipality area will be doing community work in a form of cleaning campaign for 67 minutes in that area. The 67 minutes represent the 67 years Mandela spend in politics, fighting for human rights and a better life for all. Volunteers are most welcome to help out at Appiesdoring on the day.
