2010 Comrades Entries

It is with great thanks and appreciation that the Comrades Marathon Association acknowledges the massive support South Africans has shown towards the Comrades Marathon, the world’s greatest ultra marathon. We are indeed humbled by the overwhelming response to the call for entries for the 2010 Comrades Marathon. The record time in which entries filled up, especially the 5000 entries reserved for Novice Runners testifies to the popularity and renewed interest in The Ultimate Human Race.
Subsequent to entries closing (27 October for Previous Comrades Runners and 2 November for Novices) the CMA has had numerous inquiries from athletes regarding the entry process, both from athletes who has failed to get their entry in on time and athletes who have entered but who has not received confirmation that their entry has been accepted. The CMA would herewith like to assure those athletes who entered on-line and who have received notification that their entry has been received: Your final confirmation will follow as soon as your entry has been physically captured and verified onto the CMA’s database.  This can take anything from a week to ten days as every single entry is verified and manually entered for administrative purposes.
We’ve also had complaints from disgruntled athletes who have tried to enter on-line but for some reason were unable to gain access to the Comrades website. The CMA would like to clarify that the website was fully operational throughout the entry process and on-line entries came in at a steady pace since entries opened for Previous Runners on 1 September and for Novices on Sunday 1 November at 09H00, until entries finally closed at 14:00 on Monday 2 November.
Finally, the CMA is aware of the fact that hundreds of runners failed to enter in time and as a result have now missed out on the opportunity to run The Ultimate Human Race in 2010, we understand their frustration at missing out on this great event. However, over the last 5 months the CMA has utilized every possible media and public platform to communicate the entry criteria and closing dates/ cut-off dates to athletes, both in South Africa and abroad, to ensure that every serious Comrades runner submit their entry on time. As it stands now, entries have officially been closed.
As soon as all entries have been captured the CMA will issue a statement on the final number of entries for the 2010 Comrades Marathon.
