SAPD outraged at murder of a mother and her child

REGOROGILE – A 22-year-old woman and child died on Sunday morning after her boyfriend allegedly set the woman’s house on fire, burning the child, who was in the house, alive.

It is alleged that the suspect went to his girlfriend’s house in Extension 4, Regorogile, demanded to see her and when she refused, he forced the door and dragged her outside where he started to assault her. While trying to escape, he pelted her with stones and left her unconcious. He then torched the house were the 1-year-old burnt to death. The woman apparently died due to the trauma caused by the assault together with smoke inhallation.

Police spokesperson, Lt Col Otto, said that the accused, April Thabo Senkaka (37) was apprehended and appeared before the Thabazimbi Magistrate Court on Monday and his case was postponed to 12 December 2013 to afford him an opportunity for legal aid. He remanded in custody facing two charges of murder and arson.

Limpopo Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Fannie Masemola has expressed shock, sadness and outrage following their deaths.

Detectives in Thabazimbi utilized all resources at their disposal to find the culprit. Masemola said: “As police, we remain firm that such selfish actions shall not deter us from our determination to keep our society safe from useless criminals.”

It is appaling that this occurred while the 16 Days of Activism against women and children, including the disabled are being commemorated.
