THABAZIMBI – Marakele National Park, from the Manager through to the staff were involved on Friday 17 July when they came to Bethlehem to cook a whole meal for the 150 children who Come on a daily basis to get a nutritious meal.
This all was organized by Suzan Muroa, Project Manager for Biodiversity social projects and Johan Taljaard, Park Manager for Marakele National Park.
In his opening speech mr Taljaard said the following: “I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who came to celebrate Mandela birthday, we are here to celebrate the birthday of the most well respected man, by that let us not be here as Sanparks /Marakele/Biodiversity social projects employees but be here as community ambassadors this is not about what SanParks people can do, but about honouring Mr Nelson Mandela, he asked the country to dedicate the 67minutes on his birthday to everyone to help the needy this is what we are here for, I thank you again for the opportunity to stand in front of you”

This was a glorious day for the children of Bethlehem because the almost 100 Marakele workers started early in the morning with the preparations of the food and excitement built up to see what is in store for them.
They brought all ingredients with and the planning was done professionally. Each child was blessed with a finger licking chicken drum stick rolled in crumbs and deep fried to perfection, a portion meat stew with veggies as well as mieliepap and a tasty tomato relish. While the food was prepared the staff not involved in the cooking, watered the garden and rake the whole premises. They also entertained the children with gumboot dances, singing and music.
