THABAZIMBI – The municipality is on a mission once again to see that the settlements and town remains the cleanest, as they held a cleaning campaign at the Thabazimbi taxi rank and CBD on 16 November 2012.
Her Worship, Mayor of Thabazimbi Local Municipality, Cllr Patricia Mosito joined by Councillors, Municipal Manager, Solid Waste Management Officials, Suid- Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie (SAVF) and Marakele SanParks were involved in a Cleaning Campaign.
The campaign, held under the theme “My Waste, My Responsibility”.
During the event, Mayor PA Mosito gave a brief overview on why the cleaning campaign was so important. We all have responsibility of condemning and reporting all illegal dumping to relevant authorities and department continued “said Mosito”.
Mayor Mosito further stated that the only way future generations could enjoy the planet to the fullest was to ensure that improvements on the environment started as soon as possible. “We have to act now to save our planet. The planet earth is now threatened by Global Warming which due to our daily activities such as waste generation and those impacts negatively on our livelihoods. Dressed in an orange work suit armed with refuse bag, Mayor Mosito and the group went around the town taxi rank collecting all the rubbish.
They also stopped to make commuters and taxi operators aware of the dangers of littering and dirty environment. “We have put refuse bins in most part of town and we expect all to make use of them”, said Mosito.
Mayor Mosito further added that due to the taxi rank’s high influx of people, there were certain challenges that needed to be addressed. “We as a municipality want the taxi rank to be as clean as the rest of the town”, she said. She further emphasized that Municipal Waste Removal By-law is now in place and that it will be enforced to all perpetrators of illegal dumping. The SAVF showed enthusiasm in making sure that Thabazimbi stays clean all the time.
All were thanked for their support in helping ensure that the town taxi rank and CBD are now more environmentally friendly. Special thanks went to Ms Liz Van Tonder and Ms Magda de Clerk as well as their team from Suid-Afrikaanse Vroue Federasie for their assistance in making sure that the Municipality receives 30 drums from Roux Engineering for temporary waste storage prior collection and disposal. Drums were distributed to all hotspots during the cleaning campaign. The school children’s who painted and decorated the drums were also thanked.
It was also indicated that a Massive Cleaning Campaign will be held as follows: 26 November 2012 – Rooiberg at 8:00, 27 November 2012 – Raphuti at 8:00, 28 November 2012 – Northam at 8:00 and 29 November 2012 – Thabazimbi at 8:00.
