CUMBERLAND – The Community Policing Forum chairperson, me Mokwena of Cumberland, approached the Station Commander, Captain Magwai, to initiate a campaign for the females of the policing area of Cumberland.
This campaign will assist the females to utilise funds from grants, involve the females in sports and in general to keep them occupied and help build certain life skills. Physical activities such as organized sports are a great way to keep youth profitably entertained. While sports do not ensure youth will not stray, they do promote discipline and sportsmanship. Organized sports give youth a fun way to fill their time, while teaching them skills and keeping them physically active.
The first event was held on the 14 August 2010 at the sporting grounds of Faure Farm in Cumberland. SAPS Cumberland and the Community Policing Forum of Cumberland held a sports day where the females played soccer and the attendees were provided with a meal for the day which was sponsored by the local farmers.
A similar event will be held in the near future were the females from Cumberland Policing Area will compete with the females from Hoopdal Policing Area.
