Interruption of bulk supply to Thabazimbi Local Municipality

Thabazimbi Local Municipality is currently indebted to Eskom for the bulk supply of electricity, part of which has been outstanding and in escalation since May 2012.
During 2014/15 financial year Thabazimbi local municipality entered in to a repayment plan with Eskom to address the outstanding debt and current accounts going forward.
Thabazimbi Local Municipality has made the following payments to Eskom during the 2014/15 financial year:-
July 2014 – R3 909 565.
August 2014 – R3 250 000.
September 2014 – R1 250 000.
October 2014 – R1 050 245.
November 2014 – R1 005 245.
December 2014 – R 5 500 000.
January 2015 – R 3 609 712.
February 2015 – R2 503 000.
March 2015 – R 2 163 000.
April 2015 – R 591 525.
May 2015 – R3 755 153.
June 2015 – R 655 000.
July 2015 – R 9 000 000.
The repayment plan is still intact. Thabazimbi Local Municipality has proposed to Eskom to have the repayment plan revised on the following basis:-
That the current plan be revised and aligned to the municipal financial capabilities.
That Thabazimbi Municipality’s council commits to the full repayment of the Eskom debt on the agreed dates.
Thabazimbi Local Municipality will ensure that electricity supply will NOT be disconnected on 18 August 2015.
We also want to inform our residents that the statements on social media networks about the disconnections of electricity should be ignored.
It is only Eskom and Thabazimbi Local Municipality that can issue such public statements.
