THABAZIMBI – Construction of the long awaited Thaba Mall commenced in March of this year (2014) with a sod turning ceremony conducted by the Honourable Mayor of Thabazimbi, Councillor PA Mosito. Building progress pictures is attached from 23 July till the latest of 1 October 2014
The development is the vision of Mr Louis Rossel that is well known in the bus transport industry of Limpopo and inter alia the founder of the Thaba Trans and Lowveld Bus Service companies.
Louis saw the potential of this well located property behind the existing convenience shopping centre at the T-junction of the main roads to Bela Bela and Lephalale back in 2007 already. He did not hesitate to buy it together with some adjacent portions resulting in a land parcel now measuring approximately 10.2ha, that can comfortably accommodate a shopping centre of 18 000m² together with its associate parking.
Recent market research conducted by Urban Studies awarded the site a 75% rating and concluded that the location warrants a shopping centre of between 15 000m² to 17 000m² gross lettable area.
The development team, led by Andries du Plooy from PDC Projects and André Jerling from Retail Property Group have put together a viable closed shopping mall of approximately 15 000m² lettable area that include a bigger and better Pick n Pay, Woolworths, Clicks, Pep, Ackermans, Pep Home, Mr Price, Mr Price Home, Miladys, Nedbank, Truworths, Identity and newcomer to town, Westpack Lifestyle, to name but a few. There are also franchise opportunities for restaurant and fast food operators, not to mention various smaller shops for local entrepreneurs that will enjoy the benefits of a one-stop mall.
Ample parking will be provided for cars and taxis in a landscaped environment whilst the immediate road network will be upgraded to accommodate the increase in traffic to the mall. Opening is scheduled for 26 March 2015.
