ITALY – At the recent event in Italy four South Africans participated against the best of 67 countries at the World Championships. Francois Buys managed a bronze medal in the ring sport [kickboxing] showcasing his best performance ever. Francois was stopped in the third round of his fight against Denis Zykof from Russia.
Rohan Erasmus had his first international experience in the full contact ring against Andrey Kosyanenko also from Russia, and lost on points. Henry Lynn lost in two divisions separately against Nikolai Kuznetsov from Russia and Georgi Manov from Bulgaria. Willem Henning lost his first fights in the semi [18 competitors] and light [25 competitors] divisions by disqualification. We at Thabazimbi Kickboxing Club would like to congratulate these excellent fighters on their great achievement to have advanced to this international level of competition representing South Africa proudly in the fighting arts at a very prestigious international event.
Espen Lund the WAKO Acting President said that the South Africa team is a big team with great athletes. Always giving their best and so very polite in all they do. He really hope they will see more medals from SA.
