Copper possession: Two security officers arrested

THABAZIMBI – Two security officers employees of a security firm operating in the Thabazimbi Municipal district, Godfrey van Schalkwyk aged 35 and Bagwera Motseotsile aged 34 were arrested and appeared before the Thabazimbi Magistrate Court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
The arrest was made in the early hours of Friday 12 September at about 02:00 after their company vehicle was spotted at Northam Platinum Mine, carrying a role of copper cable. Their vehicle was monitored after the information was received by the mine security. Upon their arrest the two individuals were questioned about the copper cable but failed to give an explanation about it being in the vehicle they were driving.
The police were contacted and a case docket of Possession of suspected stolen property was opened. The two suspects were immediately arrested. The copper, with an estimated value of between R80 000 and R100 000, as well as the vehicle were confiscated for investigation purposes.
Both suspects were released on R1000 bail each and will appear again in court on 7 October 2014.
