Thabang supported locally and overseas
SMASH BLOCK – A German Thabang support group, the Verein, helped provide 32 children from Smash Block with school uniforms during February. Locally, businesses helped Thabang host a Christmas party for 280 needy children from Smash Block in December last year.
Excitement, and a little chaos, prevailed as school uniforms for children of the Thabang Drop-In-Centre were tried on February 13th. Shirts, shorts, skirts and shoes were provided with funds donated from the German Verein group. Donated book covers were used for covering the books for protection.
Cakes, hot dogs and sweets were on the menu for 280 children from Smash Block who attended a Christmas party presented by Thabang. The children were addressed by the Chromite Clinic Operational Manager, sister Botsi, who told them more about safety in and around their homes. The importance of Christmas Day was also explained. Spar provided cake and hot dogs for all the children. Pick’n Pay donated a cake and Foodzone donated packets of sweets for all the children.
The Drop-In-Centre also had a closing function in December during which the 43 OVC’s (orphaned and vulnerable children) received toiletries donated by Cronimet Mine, as well as presents and a special meal from Thabang.
