Gaining Momentum on Women Rights

NORTHAM – Hundreds of NUM and other COSATU affiliates gathered in Northam on Saturday, 17 August 2013 in a rally for Woman’s month.

The President of NUM, Senzeni Zokwana and others came together to express their disgust and communal anguish against the rape and abuse of women and children in our country. The forum pledged their support and cooperation with the Cosatu initiative as well as for joint coordination of a longer-term campaign.

They demanded justice in as far as the killings of women and rapes in the mines to be investigated and those perpetrators be jailed. Earlier on the day there was a march to SAPS Northam to hand over the memorandum to the Management of Anglo American mines, Department of Safety, Security and Liaison as well as to the Department of Mineral Resources.

All stakeholders such as SACP, ANC, SANCO, Office of the Ministry of Women, Children and People with Disabilities and community organisations gave messages of support after the welcome address by the Mayor of Thabazimbi Municipality, Cllr Patricia Mosito.
