Life sentence for rapist

THABAZIMBI – SAPS Thabazimbi released a media statement on 7 August, stating that Levy Abolenleng Sekoboane (24) of Thabazimbi was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Thabazimbi Regional Court on Tuesday 30 July after being found guilty of raping a 16 year old girl in Thabazimbi during December 2012.

The court heard that the girls’ mother sent her to the local supermarket to buy groceries. On her way back to the shop, at about 16:45, two males, unknown to her, appeared from the nearby bushes and dragged her into the bushes before they took turns to rape her. The suspects later threatened to kill her if she told anyone.

Thabazimbi Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit’s (FCS) Commander, W/O JC Myburgh, the investigating officer of the case, welcomed the sentence. She said that this sentence came at the right time, two days before womens’ month and it would serve as a deterrent to would-be rapists around Thabazimbi Cluster who are thinking of targeting women and young children.

The station commander of Thabazimbi Lt Col Moseki also congratulated W/O Myburgh and her team for the hard work.
