New FPO for Thaba
THABAZIMBI – The Thabazimbi Fire Protection Association’s executive meeting was held on 8 May at Tarlford Enterprises where Henk Havenga accepted the role as Fire Protection Officer.
Santam also visited the meeting with Corrie Meyer informing the meeting that Agriculture Policies can be extended to include the costs of Working on Fire. Costs for FPA members are less than for non-FPA members. Liability costs for FPA members have been reduced. SASRIA insurance must be added to policies as this will cover violence on the farm.
Other matters which the FPA meeting attended to: If a land owner cannot make fire breaks in a mountain area a letter must be written to the FPA and this letter will then be send to the Minister of Agriculture were the land owner can be given exception of making fire breaks in areas where it is not possible. Refer Sector manual page 10/11 Rule no 6.
TFPA will collect R1.00 per ha from their members yearly. Plots smaller than 20 ha will pay R300 membership fees yearly. Kromdraai community will receive a R100 reduction per member as from next year if they clean the private roads between the plots and maintain all, on a regular basis to reduce the spread of fire risk and all new members will pay a R100 once off registration fee.
