TLM Municipality tours Magalies Water Purification Plant

By Joshua Motsomane

THABAZIMBI – The Thabazimbi Local Municipality councillors and ward committee members visited the Magalies Water Purification Plant earlier this month.

The purpose of the visit was to induct councillors and ward committee members on operations in as far as the water purification processes are concerned and to strengthen further relationship between Thabazimbi Local Municipality and Magalies Water.

The Vaalkop Water Treatment Plant area of supply stretches from Rustenburg to Thabazimbi and the plant supplies four water schemes namely; Northam, southern from Vaalkop to Bospoort and Rustenburg, western from Vaalkop to Phatsima and eastern from Vaalkop to Bethanie. These include the following major consumers, Thabazimbi Local Municipality, Moses Kotane, Rustenburg Local Municipality, Royal Bafokeng Administration, Royal Bafokeng Platinum Mines, Xstrata (SA Chrome), Amandebult (Anglo Platinum), Swartklip Mine, Pretoria Portland Cement, Northam Platinum and Impala Platinum.

“Magalies Water provide local municipalities with quality water that is suitable for human consumption for all domestic purposes and would not result in any significant risk to health of a consumer over a lifetime of consumption, in the form of bulk-water supply, on time, in sufficient quantities and also at affordable rates”, said Mr L Motlhodi (General Manager: Water Services). After the presentation, the delegates were taken through the process of water purification to see how water purification is done. Similar arrangements will be made with Eskom. The presentations from Eskom will be done in the municipal chamber during May month.
