TLM Teams crowned IMSSA Provincial Champs ‘13

THABAZIMBI – The Inter-Municipal Sports of Southern Africa (IMSSA) provincial soccer games were held in Groblersdal on 4 May 2013, hosted by Greater Sekhukhune District Municipality.

These annual games are held to foster social cohesion, teamwork and wellness to promote participation and competitiveness amongst municipal employees who are passionate and enthusiastic about sport.

IMSSA is an affiliate of Southern African Inter-Municipal Sports Association (SAIMSA) – a body that is responsible for sports of municipal employees within SADC region.

These games were played not only in Groblersdal Rugby stadium, but some were taken to Motetema and Tafelkop stadiums. There were some few challenges in as far as some facilities are concerned but that did not intimidate Thabazimbi teams to perform above expectations.

Thabazimbi Municipality Soccer Team defended their championship by winning it back to back in a highly contest final against Tzaneen. They were crowned the champions of Limpopo for the 6th time after beating Tzaneen Municipality by 2-1 in the finals that played at Groblersdal stadium.

Thabazimbi Municipality is also champions of pool. The pool team battled out all day and finally beat Polokwane in the final. Netball and volleyball teams were eliminated in the semi-final and group stages respectively.

About 16 Municipalities in Limpopo Province battled it out in various sporting codes such as soccer, netball, volleyball, table tennis, fishing, golf, snooker, etc. Only the first and second positions were considered to receive a prize. The results are: Soccer: Thabazimbi Local Municipality – first place, Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality – second place; Pool: Thabazimbi Local Municipality – first place, Polokwane Local Municipality – second place.

All players in the aforementioned municipalities received gold and silver medals. Municipalities, which took position one were awarded with not only medals but also trophies.

Acting Executive Mayor Cllr KSD Mokoka of Sekhukhune District congratulated all participants in the competition.
