Office of Public Protector joined hands with other Chapter 9 Institutions

POLOKWANE – The Office of the Public Protector in Limpopo has joined other chapter 9 institutions in strengthening the initiative by the National office to sign a MOU with other chapter 9 institutions at National Level which is known as the Forum for Institutions Supporting Democracy (FISD).

Chapter 9 institutions in Limpopo came up with an idea of forming a forum which will further work hard towards the realisation of human rights particularly the poor and the vulnerable that are at the centre of development process.

The Office of the Public Protector in Limpopo is the member in the forum for the chapter 9 institutions at the Provincial level. The forum’s first meeting was held on 4 December 2012 at the Auditor general’s offices in Polokwane. The meeting was convened by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

This forum is going to meet again on the 5th February to map out the way forward and ensuring good working relationship with government institutions for the benefit of all people in the Province.

Presently the office is making efforts to reach the length and the breadth of Limpopo, but through this forum, the unit will be able to use the available resources to reach all people in the province with the help from other chapter 9 institutions e.g. IEC with offices in all districts can assist in taking Public Protector’s mandate and services to the people.

They are willing to regularly visit areas such as Thabazimbi, Lephalale in Waterberg, Burgersfort, Groblersdal in Sekhukhune, Musina in Vhembe, Phalaborwa in Mopani, all areas in Capricorn and all rural areas in the province which they believe that through this partnership, they will be able to make an impact in the province.

The forum is planning to co-host events, work together in reaching the poor like presenting Christmas gifts to the charity organisations, people living with disability in their centres and share investigations as and when need arises. This includes giving each other an opportunity to disseminate information to the public about their complementary mandates whenever one has an event.
