Make every day a Mandela Day

The Mayor of Thabazimbi, Cllr Patricia Mosito called on residents of Thabazimbi Municipality  to make every day a Mandela Day by continuing to helping others especially those that are poor or less fortunate.

Speaking during Madiba’s birthday celebration at the Regorogile Community Centre, Cllr Mosito said it was imperative for all South Africans to celebrate the day as to recognise the former President’s commitment to a non-sexiest and a democratic South Africa.

In honour of Madiba, people have been urged to spend 67 minutes of their time helping others especially the poor.

Mayor Mosito emphasised the need for all South Africans to ensure harmony in society and respect each other. “We must continue to work hard to ensure a better life for all,” she said.

Activities for this year’s Mandela birthday celebrations included cleaning at Northam, Smashblock and Meriting informal settlements, painting of Deo-Gloria school classrooms and handing out of blankets to needy communities of Meriting informal settlement, Thabang Place of Safety, Smashblock and Raphuti communities.

Mosito also called on South Africans to join hands in grabbling with the challenges of poverty.

“We must together join hands in expanding job opportunities for the unemployed youth. Let us all strive to become agents of a caring society,” she said.

Mosito said Nelson Mandela Day celebrations were also an opportunity to promote social cohesion, national healing and nation building. It’s not just about one day. We are committing ourselves saying let us together make everyday a Mandela Day. Every day we must work together to build a better South Africa,” she said.

“We know that Tata Madiba belongs to the whole world. We are not jealous, we want to share Madiba and his spirit with the whole world…But he especially belongs to South Africa and communities like this,” she added.

Also in attendance were councillors, Management of the municipality, Management of Kumba Iron Ore Mine-Thabazimbi, Marakele San Parks’s officials, political leaders and community members at large. The Mayor further thanked all participants as well the Kumba Iron Ore Mine- Thabazimbi for their good gestures in donating more than 500 blankets to the less fortunate.
