Thabazimbi Municipality launches women caucus

THABAZIMBI – An important addition to the duties of the Speaker is overseeing the activities of the newly elected Women’s Caucus, which was launched on 12 January 2012.

The Women‘s Caucus consists of all the female members of Council, cutting across party-political barriers.

The theme/slogan of the Women’s Caucus is ‘Women at work against poverty’. Women, actively working together, hand in hand, lobbying to advance the cause of women and remove any barriers or impediments to their advancement.

The launch of the Women’s Caucus heralded a new dawn for female Councillors and for all the women of Thabazimbi.

“We are gathered here to launch this important structure to unite women in particular without negative influence,” said Mayor Mosito during her message of support. “As women, we must rise above petty issues and differences.”

Some of the roles of the women caucus: To promote engagement/participation of all women councillors within the municipality; to provide support to each other as women; is to have one voice of women within the municipality in a coordinated manner; to coordinate and support women in the municipality; to advocate political and other programme that directly affect women and to lobby Council on women/gender issues. The elected committee was as follows: Cllr Mida Moselane -Chairperson, Cllr Sylvia Gaonyadiwe Matsietsa -Secretary and Cllr Semakaleng Cathrine -Deputy Secretary. The elected chairperson, Cllr Mida Moselane thanked all the women councillors for trusting and electing her as their leader. She further made commitment of working with all women and especially the needy families.
