On Friday 30 December 2011 members of Thabazimbi SAPS were patrolling on the R511 Road when they spotted a white Toyota bakkie driving towards Northam direction. The SAPS stopped the vehicle. Four occupants, including the driver were found in the bakkie. The SAPS members requested to search the bakkie and they found one rifle and ammunition, an axe and a handsaw wrapped in black plastic. The suspects, as they were interrogated by the Police, revealed that they were from Vaalwater for rhino poaching.
There was no clear evidence of rhino poaching; therefore all four suspects were arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm, while the case is being investigated by Organised Crime.
They appeared in court on 17 January 2011 for bail application.
