The Thabazimbi Field Band took part in the National Championships and won three trophies.

JOHANNESBURG – The Johannesburg Wonderers Cricket stadium was filled with the sound of music as the Field Band National Championships was held on 7 and 8 October 2011.

The Thabazimbi Field Band sponsored by Kumba Iron Ore’s Thabazimbi Mine, took part in the National Championships and won three trophies. The sponsorship made it possible for the Thabazimbi Field Band consisting of 250 students to compete nationally and demonstrate their amazing musical skills.

At the National Championships, field bands from all over the country come together to compete and showcase their incredible musical talents. This highly anticipated event is the ultimate goal for field bands to demonstrate their new skills and techniques acquired during the year.

The Thabazimbi Field Band had only eight weeks to train and prepare for the national championships. They competed against well-established field bands but managed to win a silver medal, received 2nd place in the percussion division (marimbas and steel drums) and also took 2nd place in the marching percussion (drums) division.
