NORTHAM – Three people were killed and eleven others were injured, three of whom critically, when two light motor vehicles collided head-on on the R510 near Northam on Monday 31 October 2011. One of the critically injured is a term mother.
The cause of the accident and the series of events leading up to it remain unclear and will form the subject of a South African Police Force investigation.
Common cause information indicates that an errant party veered from their allocated lane and pushed into oncoming traffic. The two collided and veered from the roadway. Three occupants of the vehicles sustained critical injuries and had died prior to the arrival of medics.
Netcare911 Paramedics arrived at the scene to find the injured lying in and near the wreckage. All were treated and stabilised at the roadside before they were transported by ambulance to a nearby mine hospital for further urgent care.
