First Thusano bike race hits Amandelbult

The 50km women’s di vi sion was won by Wilma Pienaar.

AMANDELBULT – The first annual Thusano Rooibok Mountain Bike Race had clear skies for a super race on Womens’ Day 9 August, accordingly held by Thusano Women’s Forum.

Over 116 mountain bike riders competed in the race which was staged in the Madeleine Robinson Nature Reserve.

The funds raised will benefit their community projects. In 2011 their projects included, building a new nursery school in Rethabile, distributing blankets and food to those in need in Smashblock during the cold winter (in conjunction with Anglo American) and supporting local nursery schools by providing them with educational toys as well as the Dorian Emmett Golf challenge fund raiser.

Thusano would like to thank every participant for their enthusiasm and contribution. The winners of each race (male and female) is as follow; 50km male: Christiaan Coetzer; 50km female: Wilma Pienaar; 35km male: Ian Pienaar; 35km female: Vanessa Botes; 5km male: Ludke van Dorssen and 5km female: Rene Smith.
