Mawala destination for visiting flying club

NORTHAM – Superior Pilot Services Flying Club visited Mawala Lodge outside Northam on Sunday 15 May for their monthly breakfast flights. For these monthly Breakfast Flights the Flying Club members hire aircraft from the Flight School, or use their own, and fly to a destination to have breakfast. These flights are more or less 1 hour away from their home base at Grand Central Airport in Midrand, Johannesburg.
The club was established in September 2010 and through these social gatherings members meet new people from all over the Gauteng region who end up in many cases joining the flying club. Club Meetings occur monthly where Guest Speakers will visit them and discuss aviation stories with one another. One of the latest was Captain Laury Kay, who flew the Boeing 747 over Ellis Park in the 1995 Rugby World Cup Final, who gave a wonderful speech about the event.
Every three to four months they have a Fly Away weekend, where a bunch of aircraft are gathered and fly to destinations such as, Grundi Lodge in Botswana, Kob Inn on the Wild Coast, Dundi Lodge near Augrabies Falls in the Northern Cape Province, Battlefields in Kwazulu Natal, Ingwelala in the Kruger National Park and Wavecrest Hotel near East London. Their upcoming event will be in July where they will be flying to Nata Lodge in the North Eastern region of Botswana.
