Huge copper cable success for SAPS Thabazimbi

Copper cables weighing in at 459 kilograms to the value of R30 000 were confiscated on Thursday 14 April 2011.

THABAZIMBI – On Thursday 14 April 2011, at about 01:00, members from Thabazimbi arrested a suspect that was in possession of copper cables at Sector 3 (Koedoeskop).

While conducting normal patrols, the members noticed a 18 seater Mercedes Benz combi next to the road with its hazards on. The police approached the vehicle with the purpose of searching the driver and vehicle, but the driver sped off. The Police gave chase and managed to pull it over on the Brits road.

The vehicle was searched and copper cables weighing in at 459 kilograms, to the value of R30 000 was found. The driver and four other suspects were arrested on the scene. Investigations continued and seven more suspects were arrested.

Later the same morning, five more suspects were arrested with the assistance of farmers, Mine Security, Private Security Officials and a security K9.

Up to date a total of 17 suspects were arrested. All suspects appeared before court on 18 April 2011 and the case was postponed to 26 April 2011.
