Armed robbery at Zondereinde (Setaria) Post Office
On Saturday 13 February 2010 at about 11:30 the Post Office in Setaria was robbed. It is alleged that two (2) unknown African males, aged between 31 and 35 years entered the premises and demanded cash. The one suspect was armed with a knife and the other with a hand gun. During the incident one of the bystanders was slightly injured. The suspects fled with an undisclosed amount of money. A case of armed robbery is being investigated by SAPS Thabazimbi.
Armed robbery at Chinese Shop, Thabazimbi
On Friday 12 February 2010 at about 21:00 the Hong Kong Fashion Shop, situated in Van der Bijl Street, Thabazimbi was robbed.
It is alleged that three (3) unknown African males, of which two were armed with hand guns, entered the shop and demanded money. The suspects held one of the occupants at gunpoint and restrained the other occupant of the shop.
Two (2) of the suspects went through the shop, presumably looking for valuable items and money, and they fled with a laptop, cell phones, clothing and an undisclosed amount of money. Fortunately no shots were fired and no one was injured. The SAPS later arrested two (2) of the suspects, aged 19 and 24 respectively. The third suspect is still at large. A case of armed robbery is being investigated by SAPS Thabazimbi. The suspects are in custody and appeared before court on 16 February 2010 at Thabazimbi Magistrate’s Court.
Sentences handed out on 15 February 2010
1) Herman Mmusi, aged 26, was sentenced to 4 years imprisonment for attempted theft of a motor vehicle in Regorogile. There is also another case pending for this accused where he is the suspect for theft of motor vehicle also from Regorogile.
2) Frans Monamyane, aged 34, was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for murder.
During the early hours of the evening on 4 July 2009 the accused committed murder at Matikiring when he killed another male, aged 26, by hitting him with a shuffle. The victim was Mr Modise, aged 26, who resided in Thabazimbi.
