Northam Platinum Mine achieves 2 Million Fatality Free Shifts
SETARIA – On 2 February 2010, Northam Platinum Mine achieved a second consecutive Million Fatality Free shifts.
“ This has been brought about by the hard work and dedication of all our employees on the journey towards making each day an injury free day. This approach has become a way of life rather than the usual formal interventions.” Commented the General Manager, Danny Gonsalves.
A million Fatality Free Shifts is still being recognized as an exceptional achievement by the Mine Health and Safety Council. Northam operates the deepest level Platinum mine in the world and has, despite the difficulties associated with depth, showed good improvements in Safety over the recent years. The first Million Fatality Free shifts were achieved last year on the 18 August 2009.
