SAPS News – SMS Scam

There is a new problem with a syndicate stealing innocent people’s money. According to information this syndicate contacts you via SMS informing you that you are the lucky winner of the American Lottery. They then request you to pay a certain amount into their bank account for administration fees, because your money has to be transferred to their branch in Cape Town. After depositing the money, you receive another SMS informing you that your money is available at their Cape Town offices, but more money is needed to pay the lawyer handling the financial aspect of the transactions. After paying the last amount, there is no sign of the money you supposedly won or any of the people involved. Up to now, the following numbers were obtained to be used in this scam, they are 0067 003 02193 (International), 078 749 8338 en 071 732 9879. The SAPS urges the public to be weary of whom they make deposits to. If you are or were a target of this scam, please come forward. There are cases being investigated where people where victims of this scam.
