THABAZIMBI – Steve Heath started the project named “Operation Bear-The Bear Facts” in 2005 and 2006 in search for a solution to the sexually abused and raped children.
The project involves Steve driving with his buddy, the beach buggy, throughout South Africa and the ten countries in Africa covering a distance of almost 80 000 km over a period of 14 months. The purpose of this project is to raise awareness to the horrific number of cases of child rape in South Africa, and secondly to research what is being done and what not to stop child rape. With this project, Steve also intends to establish support for the victims in this regard and to stop this horrific crime that is being done to the children in South Africa and in Africa. The Buddy and Me project is being supported by the Teddy Bear Clinic in Johannesburg, The Bobbi Bear Foundation and clinic in Kwa-Zula Natal and the Tygerbear Foundation Trust and Clinic in Cape Town. The book entitled Buddy and Me has had a great deal of exposure and enquiries from people he met during his travels. To obtain a great deal of exposure Steve decided to undertake a second journey through South Africa, Botswana and Namibia covering a total distance of 35 000 km in a period of 10 months. The second journey will take place from 3 August 2009 to 17 May 2010. The purpose for the project is to generate maximum exposure to the book and thus will then generate income and fundraising for the three organizations mentioned above.
