Organizing Rhino owners
THABAZIMBI – A Rhino Security Meeting for Thabazimbi Region will be held on 25 November in the Bioscope Hall in Thabazimbi at 13:00.
This meeting is not open to the general public, but only to Rhino owners and reserve managers.
This will be the second meeting of its kind and the purpose is for rhino owners to be prepared and vigilant when it comes to protecting their valuable livestock. By organising themselves, getting a communication network going and forewarning other owners in their areas of suspicious activities, poaching will be approached on a much more pro-active basis.
Rhino owners and reserve managers are urged to attend the meeting as “poaching continues with private owners losing animals almost every second day amounting to millions of rands’ loss, plus the emotion of losing such magnificent animals”.
At this meeting it is hoped to establish four sectors around Thabazimbi and implement a security strategy. This strategy has been networked with SAPS, Department of Environmental Affairs, NPA and Sanparks.
The geographic areas extends to Brits, Ellisras, Bela Bela and Dwaalboom.
It was decided that Private Sector Rhino Owners will become a focus group within the WRSA (Wildlife Ranching SA) organisation, which brings greater resources, credibility, administrative and lobby power to its initiatives.
