International Children’s Day celebrated in Thabazimbi

THABAZIMBI – International Children’s Day was celebrated on Thursday 5 November at Thaba Park by 160 children from various schools in the Waterberg District.
This year Thabazimbi was elected to host this event.
Government departments which participated in presenting International Children’s Day locally include the South African Police Service, Department of Health and Social Development, Department of Education and the Local Municipalities of Thabazimbi, Lephalale, Mogalakwena, Bela-Bela, Mookgopong and Modimolle.
The children who attended the event were entertained by the Marimba Band from Thabang Place of Safety and traditional dancers from Ysterberg Primary School.
Constable Edith Lekalakala from SAPS Thabazimbi spoke to the youngsters about children’s rights, children taking responsibility, how to avoid getting involved in criminal activities, substance abuse and SAPS emergency numbers. Councillor Mosito from Thabazimbi Municipality also spoke about children’s rights.
The children received colouring books and water bottles from the SAPS, “beanies” (woollen caps) from Department of Social Development as well as water bottles from Kumba Iron Ore.
