Councillor dies in head-on collision

AMANDELBULT – The Thabazimbi Municipal Councillor representing Smashblock, Masebaetseng Anna Makola (50), was killed in a head-on collision on Thursday 22 October.
According to the Northam police, little could be deducted from the accident scene as to what had transpired. The accident occurred at 19:45 on Thursday, about 10km north of Northam near the Amandelbult turn-off.
Makola was alone in her vehicle and the second car, a VW Golf, was occupied by three students travelling between Potchefstroom and Thabazimbi. All three students were taken to Peglarey Hospital in Rustenburg. Two have sustained serious injuries and one is in a critical condition. Their names were withheld.
As a matter of standard procedure, a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
An invitation to attend the Memorial and Funeral Service of Makola was extended to community members by the mayor, Naledi Matlou. The memorial service was held on Thursday afternoon at the Smashblock Sportsground. The funeral service is scheduled for Saturday 31 October at 07:00 in Northam.
Makola leaves her husband Isaac Makobatlou, and children Aron, Sina, Alfred, Lucas and Johannes. She also leaves her parents, Aron and Sina Makola.
