Road side ads to be removed

THABAZIMBI – A meeting with all businesses in Thabazimbi, Northam, Rooiberg, Leeupoort and Kromdraai will be held on Wednesday 9 September at 10:00 in the Library Hall in Thabazimbi to discuss the issue of advertisement boards on road sides. All road side advertisement boards must be removed by 30 September 2009.
The municipality requests that all businesses be represented at the meeting from all over the municipal district, especially those who advertise by means of road side advertisement boards. It is, however, important that those who advertise elsewhere (eg wall advertising) and all prospective advertisers be present, says Johnny Motaung, head of Protection Services at the Municipality.
Even though the municipal by-laws control the display of advertisements on the road side, and allow the municipality to remove illegal boards, he would like the process to be inclusive, says Motaung. All the local businesses must own the project and decide together on the shapes, colours and sizes of advertisements, as well as where they are to be displayed.
At the moment, says Motaung, the road reserves are flooded with advertisement boards, and it gives a bad impression to tourists and visitors.
