Unlicenced firearms retrieved
THABAZIMBI – As part of the police’s campaign to remove unlicenced firearms from communities, two firearms were confiscated over the weekend, one in Regorogile and one in Cumberland.
On Saturday 27 June a case of pointing of a firearm was registered with Thabazimbi police. The police followed up information regarding the case and arrested a suspect, a local 27 year old male, who later produced the firearm at Regorogile Ext 04. It was a .38 special revolver with four live ammunition units.
The suspect appeared in court in Thabazimbi on Monday 29 June and was granted bail. A case of possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition was opened.
In Cumberland the police also received information over the weekend of a person in possession of an unlicenced firearm. The police followed up the information and the 32 year old suspect was arrested. The suspect later handed the firearm, a .38 special revolver with two live ammunition units and three empty cartridges, to the police.
The suspect appeared in court on Monday 29 June and was granted bail. He was also charged with possession of an unlicenced firearm and ammunition.
