SENTRUM – A healthy, active, sports playing youth will be less inclined to become involved in crime than their more idle peers.
Police stations in the Thabazimbi Police Cluster in association with the CPF’s (Community Police Forum) is presenting a  Sports Against Crime Day at Groenvlei Secondary School in Sentrum tomorrow, 14 Febraury as part of its approach that sport can be used in crime prevention.
The police considers children involved in sport, less likely to become involved in illegal activities, says Capt Thapela, spokesperson of the Thabazimbi police station. The importance of sport is therefore promoted under the youth by presenting a Sports-Against-Crime Campaign.
All the police stations in the cluster, Dwaalboom, Northam, Hoopdal, Cumberland and Thabazimbi have nominated groups of school children to represent the respective stations in volleyball, soccer, netball and possibly rugby between the age groups u/13 to u/23. A tug-of-war will also be held.
Police officials will also get a chance to show their mettle towards the end of the event when the police stations will compete against one another.
A similar event will be held in Thabazimbi in June.
