Increase in Alarm Activity over Holiday Periods
With the December holiday a mere eight weeks away, police statistics predict a 20% rise in criminal activity, a problem compounded by a sharp increase in false alarms. To avoid the unnecessary dispatch of response officers, Chubb Security has the following tips to help customers avoid false alarms during the upcoming holiday season.
Alert your security company to any changes in your normal business hours.
Close and latch all windows and doors.
Check all equipment for corrosion, damage to wiring or power problems.
Ensure that all household members understand how to properly arm and disarm the system.
Rehearse alarm cancellation with everyone who might use your system.
Give all system users the name and number of your monitoring station and a security I.D. in case the alarm sounds.
Keep your security system instruction book, monitoring station’s name and phone number handy (but not in an obvious place where an intruder can find it!).
Call your monitoring centre if you change your phone number, get a pet, plan to sell or remodel your house, or test your system.
Alert your alarm company immediately in the event of a false alarm.
Make sure you test your alarm before going on holiday, however notify the monitoring centre beforehand.
Prior to testing your alarm:
Contact your local monitoring centre and inform them that you are testing your alarm system.
Confirm with the monitoring centre that it has received your alarm signal.
Finally confirm with the monitoring centre that your alarm system is off testing mode.
It is recommended to test your alarm between 09:00 and 15:00 on weekdays only.
If your alarm is faulty, request a technician to come and check the system, however please don’t leave it to the last minute.
