Rooiberg police are fighting crime door to door

ROOIBERG – In a concerted effort to effectively fight crime, in cooperation with the public, Rooiberg police have initiated a door-to-door campaign. Public meetings will also be held.
The first public meeting, where station commissioner Capt Simon Ratshivombela and Insp Mudzili will be present, is at the house of Gert Gouws of Kromdraai on Saturday 2 August at 15:00.
The Rooiberg police has urgently requested all people in the area to attend, especially if there are members of the public who have information or ideas to share with the police.
The police at Rooiberg has also started on a door-to-door campaign, where people are visited at home. They hope that jointly the police and the public will come up with ideas how to fight crime, because “how can a few criminals intimidate millions of people together”? Now is the chance for members of the public to put their money where their mouths are and, instead of complaining about crime, “do something good for a day and see how far we can go”.
According to a statement from the Rooiberg police, it is the constitutional responsibility of the police to see that the community is safe and protected from all forms of crime. The police are trained and sent on courses to improve their crime fighting capabilities.
However, the public also has a responsibility to help fight crime. One way of helping the police is to report all forms of crime. For this the crime stop number 086 000 10111 was provided as well as the cell phone number of the station commissioner 082 414 2432 or the detective on duty 082 414 2404. Submissions can also be made to the police website at www.saps.gov.za.
The police are appealing to the Rooiberg community to start working together with the police to build a safer South Africa. They can start doing this by attending the proposed meetings with the public, reads the statement.
