THABAZIMBI – Of the two compactor trucks responsible for rubbish removal in Thabazimbi, Northam, Rooiberg and Leeupoort holiday resort, only one has been operational for eight months. These trucks are owned and operated by the Thabazimbi Municipality for domestic and industrial rubbish removal.
The public started complaining when the big containers, placed in the central business district for rubbish disposal, started overflowing. Not only did it look unsightly, but it also posed a health risk, some shop owners complained.
The deficient compactor truck has not had a run for eight months, except in December when it worked for a week before it broke down again. In the mean time one truck has to do the work of two.
According to the municipality the matter is being investigated. There is also a possibility of renting a second truck.
