Two men arrested on Airfield
For some time now the Thabazimbi Aerodrome Association and local pilots have been active in pointing out the dangers to the public of entering the Thabazimbi airfield unauthorised. After consultation with the Civil Aviation Authority it was deemed necessary to make an example of such an unauthorised person who has had prior verbal warning.
On Friday the 14th of March, two men were arrested thanks to our local police officers swift responds. Found unauthorised on the airfield you are not only contravening the law on trespassing, but also the Civil Aviation Offences Act which in it self carries possible imprisonment and a fine. The Association and local pilots regret the harsh stand but the safety of the public and pilots has to come first.
Even the most alert person would not be able to out run an approaching aircraft, and as an aircraft always tries to land into the wind the chances of hearing its approach from behind you is minimal. The public is again asked to find safer alternatives than the airfield for there walks, cycling and or other non aviation activities.
Thabazimbi has an active Flying association that anyone who wishes to associate with, is free to contact Barries Barnard (Chair person) who will gladly assist in further information. 082 371-4781.
