Northam Plat seals wage deal Sapa
SETARIA – A wage agreement was signed on Thursday between the Northam Platinum mine and the National Union of Mineworkers, the union said on Thursday. Num branch Chairperson, Joe Moloko, said a 10 percent increase across the board was signed on Thursday and dated back to 1 July. The agreement also allowed nine employees who were dismissed during a strike earlier this year to return to work. “This is service delivery to workers at its best,” Moloko said. Wage negotiations between the mine and the union commenced on 3 July. Other demands agreed upon by both parties included an increase in living allowances for workers who chose not to utilise accommodation provided by the employer, an increase in night shift allowances and an increase for underground workers.
