One Million fatal injury free shifts

AMANDELBULT – The management and staff of Amandelbult Mine celebrated 1 million fatal injury free shifts On Wednesday, 23 March.
The celebration started somewhat different from previous celebrations in as much as the audience was shown a performance on the Industrial Theatre Play ” Value for Life”. This play was developed between Mine SHE Department and the professional theatre group named Jumping Dust. The cast of the play was made up of mine staff as well as three well known TV actors, and was very well received by the audience.
Dr John Johnston representing the Mine Health and Safety Council presented the million shift trophy to mine manager Francois Uys who said in his speech that they need to have an actively caring approach in managing safety. This means they can not condone people working unsafely and need to correct unsafe actions by people immediately.
Anglo Platinum CEO Mr Ralph Havenstein reminded everyone that was present that poor safety performance was not acceptable by anyone and that major improvements are required throughout the mining industry. He said that Anglo Platinum was striving to improve their safety performance and congratulated Amandelbult on their achievement.
After the formalities were over everyone enjoyed a feast of fine food and celebrated their own role in this fine achievement.
