The paintwork on the current motor vehicle has evolved from the paintwork found on older vehicles of a couple of years ago. Paint finishes today are better than ever before and have produced a finish with better depth of colour and more gloss. In order to achieve these results automotive paint manufacturers have moved towards clear coat finishes. The clear coat finish has a clear film that acts as a protective barrier for the paint surface. This finish is not as thick as previous paint finishes and improper care can damage the surface. Avoid products that contain abrasives and can damage the protective film, leaving your paintwork unprotected and prone to discolouration. Shield Car Polish is specially formulated to protect and shine clear coat and metallic finishes.
Why is polishing important even on clear coat and metallic finishes?
1. Polishing helps protect against minor scratches and swirl marks.
2. To deposit a wax layer that protects against environmental elements and helps prevent dulling and fading.
3. To improve the shine and clean the surface.
4. Miraplate liquid and Polyshield Paste are ideal to provide protection against harsh outdoor elements. Both products are a blend of waxes, silicones and polymers that contain UV protectors and rust inhibitor;s to help prevent rapid oxidisation. If your paintwork is older use a polish that can remove surface oxidisation and then seal and shine the surface with a protective layer fo fight against everyday elements. Ultraglaze is formulated to shine the deep down colour back of dull and faded paint finishes.
Why do we recommend using a chamois?
When washing and drying your vehicle use a product that is product that is scratch proof. For best tesults use The Absorber PVA chamois, The Absorber PVA sponge or a Shield genuine leather chamois. All 3 products are gentle on any surfaces, clean efficiently, soak up excess water and easy to use. It is a matter of individual preference as to which product customer’s use.
Why we recommend a specially formulated car wash shampoo.
Never use dishwashing detergents on your vehicle. They contain harsh detergents that strip away the protective wax layer, leaving your paintwork unprotected. Preferably use a shampoo with a gentle cleaning agent that removes grase and grime, yet still deposits a wax layer for protection. Splash Car Wash Shampoo is recommended for best results.
Guide to washing your vehicle
1. For best results wash and polish yiu vehicle in the shade, preferably when your paintwork and tyres have cooled down. Under the hot sun paintwork softens and can scratch more easily.
2. Start cleaning from the foof down. By starting from the bottom you will dirty the clean parts again.
3. When starting to wash concentrate on problem areas ie squashed insects, excess road dirt and dirty mags. Shield Mag Cleaner is ideal for removing carbon deposits and excessive road dirt. Soak areas well, don’t attempt to scratch off.
4. Clean the car and rinse off well. When drying use The Absorber chamois, starting at the top and working downn.
5. To complete your job on the ouside, buff or polish your tyres eith Tyre Gloss to give them that shiny, new look. A vehicle with shiny tyres looks like a clean cehicle.
6. Finally go inside the vehicle and apply relevant products to beautify and protect vunyl, plastic, leather and upholstery components.
